Joan's Jottings - June Zoom
Where did the month go?  We saw the property go from green grass (high grass) and trees to piles of red dirt, huge boulders and the loss of eleven oak trees. Construction began with excavation for the footprint. Sadly, there was some re-configuring as the rock base would have required blasting. That means the house foundation will be based on the rock bed which is good but it will put the back of the house about four feet above ground. The deck will have three steps down and our view line is obviously higher. Oh well, the cost for blasting is $50K per blast....ouch
Walt received his final paycheck on June 10th so Apple is behind us after 24 years. We attended the annual Wilson Family Camp beginning on June 15th This time we didn't have to fly in, or drive Walt's Mom's motorhome to the lake. We simply had our fifth wheel transported thirty minutes down the road. The traditional campground was closed due to lake flooding so we were moved over to a newly remodeled campground. The first 30 sites were still underwater but we managed to secure nine sites for the family. This is their 51st year and a little water wasn't going to stop them. Walt and I drove the boat over from our property and for the first time in my history, we had our own stuff at camp.
I even had two houseplants at camp. The squirrels were attacking Walt's bonsai so we hated to leave them behind. Squirrels are a big pain but this month the Cicadas are out. What an interesting phenomenon these "buggers" are. They live in the ground and come out every 13 years. Wouldn't you know this was THE year. The male makes a shrill sound and when a zillion of them are in the mating mode it is horrendous the noise they make. Then there are the terrapins. Must be mating time for them also because they are plentiful. You dodge them crossing the roads and they like to rest in the shade of your car tires.
Fireworks are big here. We will go up to Walt's cousin's home for the holiday. Rumor has it the best show is off the bridge right by our property and everyone goes out in their boats on the lake to watch them. Guess we will stay home next year and experience the lake explosion.
Looking forward to seeing some CA friends this next two weeks. Wish we could be more hospitable but there is only so much room in our digs. Our mantra is that we can entertain 6, feed 4 but sleep 2. Never the less we are happy to see friends from Clinimetrics, Apple and our old neighbors, the McElligotts. Miss you all.

Have a great summer,
Joan and Walt

Saturday Coffee Clatches Continue
We meet every Saturday morning at 9 am at Le Boulanger at San Felipe and Yerba Buena.  There is a Starbucks across from it if you need something "special" to go with your bagel or pastry.   We are going to try again going to Crema Coffee Roasting Company  on the Alameda on July 16th.  Janis reminded me that it has a nice outdoor patio for enjoying the summer sun.

(Also nearby is the Recycled Bookstore which is one of my favorites!)  Come join us at 9 a.m.

Shampoo

I finally figured out why I am so "full-figured"!

As I was conditioning my hair in the shower this morning, I took time to read my shampoo bottle.
 I am in shock!

The shampoo I use in the shower that runs down my entire body says "for extra volume and body"!
Seriously, why have I not noticed this before?

Tomorrow I am going to start using " Dawn " dish soap!
It says right on the bottle, "dissolves fat that is otherwise difficult to remove".

It pays to read the warning labels, my friends!
