February Meeting
When: Tuesday, February 6, 7:15 pm
Where: Merrilee's House
What: BeautiControl Spa Escape Party

Due to conflicting schedules,Tuesday, February 6th will be the date for our February meeting. Merrilee will be hosting a BeautiControl Spa Escape party. We will learn about our skin, how to care for it, and how to slow the signs of aging. That should be useful. We will be able to try some of these anti-aging products. There won't be pressure to buy. So come and enjoy an evening of fun and refreshments. Please RSVP Merrilee to let her know if you will be attending.

"Tortilla Curtain".....Shirley
I mentioned the Silicon Valley Reads book for this year at the January meeting- it is Tortilla Curtain by TC Boyle.  Info has been in the paper, on the website- www.siicovalleyreads.org I know those of you in the book group are already reading it and I would like to. We can try to finish it by the end of the program and go to the Mexican Heritage Plaza on February 28th at 7:30 to hear the author speak. On February 20th there also a viewing of an interview with the author and discussion at 7 PM at Alum Rock library.  Anyone who is interested in hearing more about what we are planning to do or who has a preference of either/both of those dates, let me know......Shirley  (Editor's Note:  I think the consensus was to go on the February 28th.  Check your email for further info.)

Las Madres Dues
Our annual dues were set at $10 for 2007.  Those who have not turned in their dues to Vicki will be dropped from the email group as of February 7th.

Info from the Pres
Randi is looking into a car rally (one we don’t have to organize.)
Wanda is looking into the potting session in Los Gatos on a Saturday after coffee.
Sue Butler (Dee’s idea) is looking into Niles Canyon Railway.  More info to follow. Shirley is getting all the info for “baskets” for teens (more info to follow.)
Shirley wants to know if there is any interest in the “Women’s Health Forum” held at Stanford.  (Click here to download PDF file)  We could plan to car pool.
Shirley also brought up about the “Silicon Valley Reads” The book “The Tortilla Curtain”, by T.C. Boyle was voted book of the year.  He was at the Campbell Heritage Theatre on Jan. 18th.  Excellent book about two couples, one well to do, the other Mexican illegal and how their lives intersect and what develops from there.
T.C. Boyle will be at the Mexican Heritage Plaza at 1700 Alum Rock Ave in San Jose on Wednesday February 28 at 7:30.  Maybe we can car pool.  Hope you can go.

Thank you again to Sally for opening her house and coordinating the food arrangements for our “Planning Meeting” on January 18th.  It was a huge success with 21 attending.  When our tummies were full, we set the wheels in motion for many activities.  We are still looking for volunteers for some of our regular 3rd Thursday meetings.  Please contact me if you are interested in organizing one of these dates.  Also, we’d love to hear any other suggestions for other couples and/or Mom’s activities.  After the planning was done, we got down to business with the re-gift.  Candles were a definite theme as well as bags full of multiple gifts.  Randi was lucky enough to go home with the smallest gift.  We all had a good time, we’ll have to do this more often.
Serve food, and they will come!  This will probably be the tradition for future January meetings.

It was great to see Cathy Hennig again.  She, of course, was volunteering to host many activities and meeting nights.  We’ll get there one of these days.  Dee is all excited about the move.  She will have us over down the road when she is all settled in.  Mary Ryan will be coming out in May or June.  We will plan some Mom’s activity, possibly a pajama party.

I apologize in advance if I have missed anything.  Please let me know of any corrections that need to be done.

Final Plans for Bocce Ball & Niles Canyon Railway.....Sue Butler
Sue has reserved the caboose leaving Sunol (only can get if you leave from Sunol) for Sunday May 20th at 1:30. It can hold 18 down below and 8 in the little raised area above, so she thinks we better figure on 18 people.  We can bring food and drink (he said the adults usually bring wine and cheese).  First people to sign up are in.

Also, Sue has reserved the bocce courts at St. Frances Cabrini for Saturday August 18th from 6-9:30 for now.  The times are flexible. Plan on BBQ, etc. again.

Happy 30th Anniversary
Congratulations to Julie & Allan Corral who will be celebrating 30 years of wedded bliss on the 12th!

SJSU's Sesquicentennial Exhibit
This is the 150th birthday year of San Jose State and we decided to do coffee near there and visit the exhibit some time soon.  Almost all of us have some connection to the university.  What is your connection to the university - attended?  graduated? received a teaching credential?  child attended/is attending?  parent attended?  Send Ginny the info on your connection and she will publish it in an upcoming newsletter.

Saturday Coffee Clatches Continue
After much discussion, it was decided to try something different for coffee this year. We will be picking a new place to visit each month. We will go to that location for the entire month, unless we decide to have an "away" coffee :-)
And now that you're totally confused... we will be returning to "Mission City Coffee Roasting" 2221 The Alameda in Santa Clara. We went there last week & they had a great variety of breakfast & bakery items & coffees to choose from. They also had a lot of seating for our big, boisterous group!! We won't be having an "away coffee" in February, but those that want to join Robin & Kathy at the Knitting Show after coffee may do so on Saturday February 24. "Stitches West" is at the Santa Clara Convention Center from 10am-6pm. Look for $2 coupons in the paper or learn more at www.knittinguniverse.com.

Retired "Honey" at Walmart

Mr. and Mrs. Fenton are retired. Mrs. Fenton insists that Mr. Fenton go with her to Walmart. He gets bored with all the shopping. He prefers to get in and get out, but Mrs. Fenton loves to browse.
Here's a letter sent to her from the store.

Dear Mrs. Fenton,

Over the past six months, your husband has been causing quite a commotion in our store. We cannot tolerate this behavior and may ban both of you from our stores. We have documented all incidents on our video surveillance equipment. All complaints against Mr. Fenton are listed below.

Things Mr. Bill Fenton has done while his spouse was shopping in Walmart:

1. June 15: Took 24 boxes of condoms and randomly put them in people's carts when they weren't looking.

2. July 2: Set all the alarm clocks in Housewares to go off at 5-minute intervals.

3. July 7: Made a trail of tomato juice on the floor leading to the restrooms.

4. July 19: Walked up to an employee and told her in an official tone, 'Code 3' in housewares ... and watched to see what happened.

5. Aug 4: Went to the Service Desk and asked to put a bag of M&M's on layaway.

6. Sept 14: Moved a 'CAUTION - WET FLOOR' sign to a carpeted area.

7. Sept 15: Set up a tent in the camping department and told other shoppers he'd invite them in if y'll bring pillows from the bedding department.

8. Sept 23: When a clerk asks if they can help him, he begins to cry and asks, 'Why can't you people just leave me alone?'

9. Oct 4: Looked right into the security camera; used it as a mirror, and picked his nose.

10. Nov 10: While handling guns in the hunting department, asked the clerk if he knows where to find the antidepressants.

11. Dec 3: Darted around the store suspiciously loudly humming the "Mission Impossible" theme.

12. Dec 6: In the auto department, practiced his "Madonna look" using different size funnels.

13. Dec 18: Hid in a clothing rack and when people browse through, yelled "PICK ME!" "PICK ME!"

14. Dec 21: When an announcement came over the loud speaker, he assumes the fetal position and screams "NO! NO! It's those voices again!!!!"

And last, but not least ....
15. Dec 23: Went into a fitting room, shut the door waited awhile, then yelled very loudly, "There is no toilet paper in here!"

Please refrain from bringing your husband back to our store.....

Thank you.
