Missouri Missive - The Month of June

Happy Canada Day to me !

This month has zoomed by. The landscapers decided that we needed three more huge oak trees removed from our west side of the house. They were showing signs of “construction stress” and it was better to get them out before one fell on our house. Ya think?? That was a no-brainer but a pricey addition to the landscaping budget. Our sod went down just two days before we left for Wilson Family camp. It was so neat to see green and it made such a difference in the house appearance and curb appeal.

Our family completed a 61-year tradition of camping on Table Rock Lake. The last three years just happened to be a different campground due to the spring floods. This year 41 people spent some time at camp. We were glad to have Greg and the girls join us. Kendra really did a fabulous job of skiing. Most of the kids are into tubing. Greg loved trying to dump the kids off the tube so he quickly became the fun boat driver of choice. We also rented kayaks and had fun with those. I think Walt and I have narrowed down our requirement on what we want. Our cove is perfect for kayaking. We also initiated a new game Walt made. It is called Washoe….horseshoes played with 4” washers.

Last weekend Branson hosted the World Championships for Wakeboarding. Those guys are amazing…or crazy.

We had company from San Jose this week and it was hellaciously HOT. We are breaking records from the dust bowl days. Thank goodness for the lake. The water is a warm 89 degrees but it feels wonderful on the hot days. Humidity has been very low.
Today we cut the lawn for the first time. I quit counting after we emptied the grass catcher bag for the thirteenth time.

We are heading to Oklahoma for the 4th. I can not believe how big fireworks are in this area. Most of the marinas have a show and they spread them over many days. We have yet to be on the lake to watch them as it is chaotic to be boating home in the dark with so many boats on the lake.

Happy 4th to all of you.

Saturday Coffee Clatches Continue
We meet every Saturday morning at 9 am at Le Boulanger at San Felipe and Yerba Buena.  There is a Starbucks across from it if you need something "special" to go with your bagel or pastry.   Let's try somewhere new in Willow Glen on Saturday, July 21st!  Elaine's on Lincoln (pretty close to Domus on the corner of Minnesota and Lincoln) bought out Willow Glen Roasting Company.  It is a "cafe" where you order at the counter and seat yourself.  There are lots of tables inside but not many outside.  We can then stroll the "Avenue" afterwards.  Here is their website:  http://www.elaines.org/

Bounce This Along  Bounce

U.S. Postal service sent out a message to all letter carriers to put a sheet of Bounce in their uniform pockets to keep yellow-jackets away.

Use them all the time when playing baseball and soccer. I use it when I am working outside. It really works. The insects just veer around you.

All this time you've just been putting Bounce in the dryer!

 1.
BounceIt will chase ants away when you lay a sheet near them. It also repels mice.

 2.
BounceSpread sheets around foundation areas, or in trailers, or cars that are sitting and it keeps mice from entering your vehicle.

 3.
BounceIt takes the odor out of books and photo albums that don't get opened too often.

 4.
BounceIt repels mosquitoes. Tie a sheet of Bounce through a belt loop when outdoors during mosquito season.

 5.
BounceEliminate static electricity from your television (or computer) screen.  (Editor's note: Also works on the GPS screen in your car.)

 6.
BounceDust your car's dashboard with a sheet of Bounce.

 7.
BounceDissolve soap scum from shower doors. Clean with a sheet of Bounce.

 8.
BounceTo freshen the air in your home - Place an individual sheet of Bounce in a drawer or hang in the closet.

 9.
BouncePut Bounce sheet in vacuum cleaner.

 10.
BouncePrevent thread from tangling. Run a threaded needle through a sheet of Bounce before beginning to sew.

 11.
BouncePrevent musty suitcases. Place an individual sheet of Bounce inside empty luggage before storing.

 12.
BounceTo freshen the air in your car - Place a sheet of Bounce under the front seat.

 13.
BounceClean baked-on foods from a cooking pan. Put a sheet in a pan, fill with water, let sit overnight, and sponge clean. The anti-static agent apparently weakens the bond between the food and the pan.

 14.
BounceEliminate odors in wastebaskets. Place a sheet of Bounce at the bottom of the wastebasket.

 15.
BounceCollect cat hair. Rubbing the area with a sheet of Bounce will magnetically attract all the loose hairs.

 16.
BounceEliminate static electricity from Venetian blinds. Wipe the blinds with a sheet of Bounce to prevent dust from resettling.

 17.
BounceWipe up sawdust from drilling or sand papering. A used sheet of Bounce will collect sawdust like a tack cloth.

 18.
BounceEliminate odors in dirty laundry. Place an individual sheet of Bounce at the bottom of a laundry bag or hamper.

 19.
BounceDeodorize shoes or sneakers. Place a sheet of Bounce in your shoes or sneakers overnight.

 20.
BounceGolfers put a Bounce sheet in their back pocket to keep the bees away.

 21.
BouncePut a Bounce sheet in your sleeping bag and tent before folding and storing them. It will keep them smelling fresh.

 22.
BounceWet a Bounce sheet, hose down your car, and wipe love bugs off easily with the wet Bounce.

 23.
BouncePut a sheet of Bounce in your suitcase when traveling, it will help keep mites or any other critters out of it. While you are at it, travel with several Bounce sheets and run them up and down your bed linen before getting into bed, it will cause all the critters already in your bed to run. Keep a sheet in your suitcase even after you have unpacked to protect your suitcases from bugs nesting in it.
