                    October Meeting Review
Although lots of people dropped off items and shoeboxes at Janis Gerlinger’s, only
six gals attended the meeting to sort, fill and wrap 22 boxes to be delivered to the
shelter. Janis was kind enough to offer to play courier. It was amazing how many
toiletries we collected, so many that in the end, we filled a shopping bag with what
was left to give to the shelter for individual giving.  Janis supplied a great assortment
of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream and we all sat on Janis’ new dining room chairs
                        ( the Tahoe treasures)

Christmas Party

This year's Christmas Party is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 14 at Dee's house.
Ladies MUST call Dee by Dec. 11 to "reserve a seat" so she can know how many
are coming, and to sign up for a potluck dish.  The sooner they call, the more choice
they have in what to bring...  Gift exchange will be -anything with a Christmas theme
in the $10-15 range.  It does not have to be an ornament.
Joan hopes you have all found your “treasure” for the exchange.
Just a reminder:  Next year's dues will be collected at that time, by Vicki (?),  same
$$$ as last year for those getting their newsletter online
(New arrangements need to be made for those members requesting a mailed copy.)

                    Saturday Coffee Clatches
Start your Saturday morning with a relaxing cup of ? at the Evergreen Starbucks
We meet there on Saturdays around 9:00 a.m.

Café au lait AWAY
It was decided by the coffee clatch that the third Saturday of the month will be an
“away meet” Sue Ballard is chair of this committee and she will be arranging
different locations.  If you know of a neat spot to hang-out, let her know.
(Those that she has scheduled to date are listed under "Coming Events" above.)

Message from Mary

Janis received the following note from Mary Ryan and thought you would like to
here what she wrote.  (Gary was in Denver for a couple of weeks at the end of
October and got together with Mary and Ed.)

"Wellll-- we had a very nice visit with Gary on Sunday. Like we told him, it is
always a pleasure to see old friends from Las Madres. We do miss you guys.
We hold many wonderful memories. :) By the way, Gary said that it would not
be a problem for you ladies to fly out and do a "girls weekend" out here with me
sometime. Ha Ha  I told him it is his duty to go back and tell everyone that! Ha Ha
Sounds like everyone's family has grown up. We will have to make a point of getting
out there sometime. The unforunate part is that Ed and I have sooooo much that we
want to see and do now that we are basically kidless, there are not enough vacation
days for me in a year and of course there is that thing called a budget that always
seems to get in the way. Oh well------ we will get back out there.
Tell everyone "Hi" for us and as always we will be in touch.  Mary Kay :)"

                    e-MAIL HUMOR

In the Hospital the relatives gathered in the
waiting room, where their family member lay
gravely ill.  Finally, the doctor came in
                        looking tired and somber.

I'm afraid I'm the bearer of bad news," he
said as he surveyed the worried faces.
"The only hope left for your loved one
at this time is a brain transplant.  It's an
                        experimental procedure, semi-risky and
you will have to pay for the brain yourselves."

The family members sat silent as they
absorbed the news.  After a great
length of time, someone asked, "Well, how
                        much does a brain cost?"

The doctor quickly responded, "$5,000 for
a male brain, and $200 for a female brain."

The moment turned awkward.  Men in the
room tried not to smile, avoiding eye contact
with the women, but some actually smirked.
A man, unable to control his curiosity, blurted
out the question everyone wanted to ask,
"Why is the male brain so much more?"

The doctor smiled at the childish innocence
and so to the entire group said, "It's just
standard pricing procedure.  We have to mark
down the price of the female brains, because
                        they've been used."
