Couples Bunco.....Sally

Ten couples enjoyed a fun and tasty evening at the Nevoli's.  The weather was fine, so  4 of the 5 tables  were out in their lovely yard. We took many breaks to eat yummy appetizers, favs were Randi's brie on fruit crackers and Bill's cosmos. We moved on to four homemade desserts, so all left contented, even if not rewarded with a cash prize.  Taking home the money were:  Sally-low score, Merrilee and Rich and Sally and Jim tied for most losses for a couple, Robin-most wins, tied for most couple wins-Lou and Shirley and Sue and Charles, most buncos-Marti, high score-Robin, middle of the road-Janis, most couple buncos-tie between Bruce and Marti and Sue and Charles, most losses-Merrilee, traveling-Shirley.

New Event:  FIRST Thursday of the month - HAPPY HOUR.....Sally

Vicki had been telling us how nice the Happy Hour was at the Hotel Valencia's V-bar at Santana Row, and that we ought to all go there.  So why not make Happy Hour a regular event. Let's try it out. September Vicki will be our guide on Thursday, September 5th, from 4-7 at the V-Bar:(If she is becoming a grandmother that day, we will wing it anyway)

Our sleek and contemporary cocktail lounge, located on the 3rd floor lobby level, offers cocktails and wines by the glass. View Vbar's beverage menu.

In October, Shirley is planning on having Happy Hour as the meeting she is hosting.  This will be at the Good Fork in Morgan Hill, 17340 Monterey Road on October 24. We will carpool.

Ladies Fall Trip.....Mary
Hi Ladies! Looking forward to spending Sept. 27th thru Sept. 30th with Shirley, Sue Butler, Joan, Cathy Hennig, and Kathy Rossler in beautiful Estes Park, CO. There are a lot of options for the weekend, including but not limited to, hiking, shopping, relaxing, mini golf, observing wild life (mostly Elk), eating (ha), chatting (mostly), Tour the Stanley Hotel (where the Shining was filmed), check out the Elk Fest in the park and visiting the Quilt-a-Fair on the way. I really wish that more of you could attend. Those of you will be missed. Look for pictures to follow in the October issue of the Newsletter.

Napa B&B Holiday Tour.....Sue Butler

It's time to start planning for the annual Napa Holiday B&B Tour:  December 7, 2013, 3p.m to 7 p.m.

We will leave Sat morning and only stay one night at Embassy Suites.  Last year the cost for the room was around $170 per night.  We are within walking distance from the Napa Inn (if we want to start there for the tour) and there are bigger breakfasts at Embassy, bigger rooms and a place to play games.

Tickets for the tour stayed at $65.00 per person, and still well worth it.  Go to http://www.napaholidaytour.com and purchase your tickets.  See the list of B&B's that are participating this year.  Great entertainment, food and decorations (besides wine and some even have beer).

Some friends just come for the day, and others will spend the night.

Let me know if you decide to come with, we usually go to lunch beforehand at Buckhorn in Napa.

Bank Account

A 92-year-old, small, well-poised and proud man, who is fully dressed each morning by eight o'clock, with his hair fashionably combed and shaved perfectly, even though he is legally blind, moved to a nursing home today.
His wife of 70 years recently passed away, making the move necessary. After many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursing home, he smiled sweetly when told his room was ready.
As he maneuvered his walker to the elevator, I provided a visual description of his tiny room, including the eyelet sheets that had been hung on his window. I love it,' he stated with the enthusiasm of an eight-year-old having just been presented with a new puppy.
"Mr. Jones, you haven't seen the room; just wait."
"That doesn't have anything to do with it," he replied.
"Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time.  Whether I like my room or not doesn't depend on how the furniture is arranged, it's how I arrange my mind.  I already decided to love it.  It's a decision I make every morning when I wake up. I have a choice; I can spend the day in bed recounting the difficulty I have with the parts of my body that no longer work, or get out of bed and be thankful for the ones that do."
"Each day is a gift, and as long as my eyes open, I'll focus on the new day and all the happy memories I've stored away.....Just for this time in my life.
Old age is like a bank account.  You withdraw from what you've put in.  So, my advice to you would be to deposit a lot of happiness in the bank account of memories!
Thank you for your part in filling my Memory Bank.  I am still depositing.

Remember the five simple rules to be happy:
1. Free your heart from hatred.
2. Free your mind from worries.
3. Live simply.
4. Give more.
5. Expect less.
